Thai police have arrested 100 nationals for their involvement in a scam center in Cambodia. Authorities say they went there voluntarily and were not victims of trafficking. Those arrested were among the 119 Thais pulled out of a scam compound in Cambodia's border town of Poipet in a raid last month. They were then deported to Thailand and screened for their roles in the operation. The police announced on Wednesday that the suspects were allegedly involved in stock investment and romance scams, as well as online gambling. Authorities believe they targeted Thai citizens. Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Royal Thai Police Senior Inspector General, told reporters on Wednesday that internet fraud has serous impacts to national security. He added that the police have confirmed Thais and foreigners are cooperating to target Thai people. Thai police say some scam syndicates are now shifting from Myanmar to Cambodia and Laos due to recent crackdowns. Authorities say they are stepping up international cooperation to wipe out scam centers.
