Iran's foreign minister has indicated that his country and the United States will have talks over the issue of Teheran's nuclear program, with the attendance of the minister. Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post on Tuesday that the talks will be held in Oman on Saturday. The remarks came after US President Donald Trump expressed a view on Monday that the US and Iran were poised to begin talks on Tehran's nuclear program on Saturday. Araghchi also announced that he and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff will attend the meeting in Oman. If realized, it would be the first official talks between the two countries since Trump took office in January. However, while Trump said the two countries will have direct talks, Araghchi said it will be indirect through mediation. In his first term, Trump unilaterally pulled the United States out of a 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and a group of world powers in 2018. Since then, Iran has accelerated its nuclear development, fueling concerns among the international community. Trump has raised the possibility of military action against Iran, if Teheran does not come to a new agreement. The question now is whether the two countries will be able to find a way to improve their relations through the upcoming talks.
