A radio station operated by the Israeli military said on Monday that the country has carried out airstrikes on more than 250 targets in Syria, including fighter jets and missiles that had belonged to President Bashar al-Assad's government.

Israel apparently plans to destroy all strategic weapons that remain in Syria after the collapse of the Assad regime to ensure anti-government forces do not obtain them.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said "We are taking all the actions necessary to try to ensure our security with regard to the new situation created in Syria."
