A bus carrying people to a wedding has plunged into a river in Pakistan. Sixteen people are dead, and 10 others are missing. Only the bride has so far been rescued alive.

The accident occurred on Tuesday in Astore, a city in the north. Local authorities say 27 people were on board the bus, which was traveling to Punjab province.

They say initial investigations suggest the driver was speeding and lost control before the vehicle fell into the Indus river.

Reports say the bride is receiving treatment at a hospital.

Many roads in Pakistan's rural areas are in poor condition, and fatal accidents are common.

Two bus accidents in August killed more than 30 people.
