More than 100,000 ethnic Armenians have fled Nagorno-Karabakh, following an Azerbaijani military operation in the disputed region last month. Armenian government officials said on Monday that they have received 100,520 people from the region. That's more than 80 percent of the region's estimated 120,000 ethnic Armenians. Nagorno-Karabakh has been a source of tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Ethnic Armenians established a self-proclaimed republic in the disputed region. But on September 19, the Azerbaijani military launched an offensive and forced them to agree to disarm. Procedures have begun to disband the self-proclaimed republic by New Year's Day in 2024. Local media quoted an Armenian government spokesperson as saying on Monday that the process of ethnic Armenians' relocation from Nagorno-Karabakh has been completed. The spokesperson added that only authorities and other officials remain in the region. A UN mission arrived on Sunday amid growing concerns over humanitarian crises in the area, including food shortages. Azerbaijani prosecutors said they placed more than 300 Armenians, including high-ranking officials in Nagorno-Karabakh, on the international wanted list, accusing them of involvement in the conflict.
