Nippon Steel says it strongly wants US President Joe Biden to weigh the merits of the Japanese company's bid to buy US Steel. Nippon Steel said in a statement on Tuesday that it has received a report from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States that it was unable to reach a consensus on the acquisition plan. The Japanese steelmaker says it believes the president will now make a final decision within 15 days. The company's statement says it strongly wants Biden to carefully consider the various steps Nippon Steel has taken, and the commitments it has made, to respond to national security concerns raised over the deal. The statement says these steps and commitments will help US Steel grow, maintain American jobs, and strengthen the steel industry as well as national security. It says Nippon Steel and US Steel firmly believe that if the merits of the acquisition are evaluated fairly, the deal will be approved.
