Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization of atomic bomb survivors that won this year's Nobel Peace Prize, says it has received donations worth more than triple its target to cover the cost of attending the award ceremony. The group has been seeking crowdfunding since November 15. The money will be spent for its members to travel to Norway and stay there for the event on December 10. The target amount was 10 million yen, or about 66,000 dollars. Nihon Hidankyo said on Monday that donations reached the goal in just one day and have now topped 36 million yen from over 4,300 people. An official said they are surprised that the amount reached the target so soon. He said he has realized that so many people support the group. He also said officials of the group are greatly encouraged by the support and determined to continue working to abolish nuclear weapons.
