North Korea says it will hold a plenary meeting of the ruling Workers' Party Central Committee late this month following the recent launch of a military spy satellite. The Workers' Party's newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on Saturday that the party's Political Bureau held a meeting the previous day with the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, in attendance. The newspaper said that the politburo had officially decided to convene the plenary session of the party's Central Committee late in December to "discuss and decide on orientation of struggle for 2024 and important issues." Kim reportedly noted the "markedly stable and constant trend of growth of the national economy." He also noted "the epoch-making changes of great significance in bolstering up the national defence capability." Last month, Pyongyang announced that it had, for the first time, successfully launched a military reconnaissance satellite. It also said that the plenary meeting of the Central Committee will decide on a plan to launch more spy satellites next year. Attention is focused on what Kim will say about the military and foreign relation sectors at the upcoming meeting as the country's five-year defense program enters its fourth year in 2024.
