Russian prime minister calls for unity of society after Wagner mutiny NHK

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has called for unity in the country following an armed revolt by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the private military firm Wagner Group.

Mishustin was speaking Monday at his first meeting with his deputies since the mutiny.

He said, "Over these days, the country faced yet another challenge; an attempt was made to destabilize the domestic situation within Russia." He went on to say that members of the government acted in accordance with President Vladimir Putin's guidance and maintained stability of the situation at all levels.

He stressed the importance of ensuring the sovereignty and independence of Russia, and the safety and well-being of the Russian people.

He called for maintaining the unity of all forces, and rallying around the president.
