The death toll from Monday's earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has topped 24,000. The magnitude-7.8 quake and the tremors that followed have resulted in the deaths of 20,937 people in Turkey and 3,553 people in Syria. Rescue efforts are continuing. In Kahramanmaras, southern Turkey, a girl who had been trapped under debris for more than 110 hours was rescued on Friday. Support stations were set up in Kahramanmaras. One of them is in a park where about 4,500 people are staying in tents. Disaster management authorities and volunteers from around the country have gathered there to help those who have lost their homes. Those living in tents formed a long line to receive warm food, including soup. Clothes, blankets and other relief supplies have been arriving from across the country. People have been picking up items they need. A woman with an eight-month-old baby said she was thankful as she could not have done anything without the support. A 63-year-old woman also expressed thanks but said it is difficult to live without a shower or clean toilet. She said it is very cold, and that if it rains, temperatures may fall further.
