Three Japanese Self-Defense Force aircraft have arrived in Djibouti in preparation for an evacuation of Japanese nationals from nearby Sudan. An NHK crew has confirmed that a SDF C-2 transport plane landed at Djibouti's international airport at around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, local time. Two other SDF aircraft, a C-130 transport and a KC-767 air-to-air refueling transport plane, have also touched down. The SDF has a temporary base at the airport in Djibouti to conduct anti-piracy operations. On Thursday, Defense Minister Hamada Yasukazu ordered the dispatch of SDF planes to Djibouti for the evacuation of Japanese citizens as the situation in Sudan worsened. SDF officials say they are collecting information, and making preparations in the event an order is issued from Tokyo to evacuate Japanese citizens.
