US Vice President JD Vance has urged India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions over a deadly terrorist attack in the disputed region of Kashmir. In an interview with US media FOX News on Thursday, Vance expressed hope that "India responds to this terrorist attack in a way that doesn't lead to a broader regional conflict." He also called on Pakistan to "cooperate with India to make sure the terrorists sometimes operating in their territory are hunted down and dealt with." Tensions have been rising between India and Pakistan after a terrorist attack on April 22 in India-administrated Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people, including tourists. India accused the Pakistani government of involvement in the attack and indicated the possibility of a retaliatory attack. Pakistan has denied involvement, and warned that it will respond resolutely if India launches an attack. Washington has been stepping up efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear powers. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also held separate phone talks this week with the two nations' leaders.
