A 76-year-old woman from central Japan known as the "Expo Grandma" says she hopes to visit the World Expo in Osaka every day. Yamada Tomiyo made daily visits to the 2005 Aichi Expo, which ran for 185 days. She also visited the world expositions in Shanghai and Dubai and became friends with staff members and other people from the participating countries. Yamada lives in the city of Seto in Aichi Prefecture. She began renting a room near the Expo venue in December. Yamada and her family arrived near the entrance gate shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday. They waited nearly two hours for the event to open. Yamada took part in the opening ceremony for the Chinese pavilion, which she said she had been invited to. She also distributed her original "Expo Grandma" badges and stickers to staff from participating countries she met for the first time in a while. Yamada said she can connect with more people by giving them stickers and other gifts and can also hear their gratitude and see their happiness. She said that gives her life meaning. She added that she wants to go to the Expo every day to get more insights into the event.
