Japan will express at the COP27 meeting that it is considering offering funds, along with technical support, to help developing nations deal with "loss and damage" caused by climate change. Environment Minister Nishimura Akihiro is expected to outline the idea when he delivers a speech at the ministerial session of the climate change conference in Egypt on Tuesday. Nishimura told NHK on Monday he hopes to state that Japan can offer both funding and technical support in countering the effects of climate change. He said the country has experienced major natural disasters and has developed technologies to deal with such calamities. He said he believes Japan can extend tailored support to each developing nation by using that knowhow. Negotiations continue at the COP27 meeting on financial assistance focusing on "loss and damage." Developing nations that are already being severely affected by extreme weather events are strongly calling for a new funding framework.
