Former US President Donald Trump has seen one rival after another drop out of the race for the Republican nomination. On Wednesday, the last hopeful has officially stepped aside. Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley left after failing to win enough support within the party. Haley made her announcement in South Carolina after spending more than a year campaigning for presidency. She has conceded to Trump, whom party officials have already labeled the "presumptive nominee." Haley said, "It's now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him, and I hope he does that. At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away." Haley stopped short of endorsing Trump. Her departure comes after she fell well behind in the race for delegates who will choose the nominee. She enjoyed a single victory on the biggest day of the primary season, Super Tuesday, capturing Vermont, which followed her win in the District of Columbia last weekend. One person in Washington said, "It's disappointing because it was really refreshing to have someone speak reality." Another said, "She put up a good fight. And now it's, I guess, unfortunately time for her to move on. The math just isn't working for her." After Haley announced her exit, Trump bragged on his Truth Social network that she "got trounced." He also invited her supporters to back his candidacy. President Joe Biden also made a bid for Haley voters. He acknowledged that there is a lot they will not agree on, but he said they can find "common ground" on issues such as "preserving American democracy."
