Tokyo police referred a university student to prosecutors on Tuesday for allegedly cheating on exams that companies use to assess prospective new employees.
Police say the fourth-year Tokyo student paid a man to take online job recruitment exams for her given by 23 firms. They included credit card companies, banks, trading houses and real estate-related firms. Police say she paid him about 100,000 yen or about 704 dollars.
She told police she paid him because she failed the tests.
Osaka resident Tanaka Nobuto was arrested on Monday. He allegedly took an online test a credit company gave in April at her request.
Tanaka, 28, is a Kansai Electric Power Company employee. He reportedly said he started taking exams for other people just to earn a little money, but came to enjoy it after students thanked him or sought his advice.
