Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and the head of the International Energy Agency have agreed to cooperate in addressing the global energy crisis against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Kishida and IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol met for about half an hour in Paris on Monday.
Birol briefed Kishida on the energy situation in both Europe and developing countries, and expressed hope for Japan's role as this year's president of the Group of Seven.
Kishida responded that the IEA has a major role to play as the international community faces an energy crisis.
Kishida also explained Japan's energy policy, such as its use of nuclear power plants. Birol reportedly welcomed Japan's plans.
