Russian, Chinese delegations to visit N.Korea for Armistice anniversary NHK

North Korea has announced that a Russian military delegation led by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu will visit the country to mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

The announcement was made through the state-run Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, as North Korea prepares for the anniversary on July 27, which Pyongyang calls "Victory Day."

The announcement said the visit by the Russian delegation will further develop the two countries' friendly ties, something it said is just what the present environment calls for.

Russia's Defence Ministry said its delegation will be in North Korea from Tuesday through Thursday, and will attend the anniversary ceremony.

The ministry said the visit will help strengthen military relations between the two countries.

China announced on Monday that a delegation of Communist Party and government officials will begin a visit to North Korea on Wednesday.

Russia and China are sending their delegations at the invitation of North Korea. Pyongyang apparently aims to highlight its ties with the two countries as it ramps up its confrontational stance toward the United States.
