A South Korean ruling party lawmaker has suffered a head injury after being attacked by a male assailant. Reports say her condition is not life-threatening. The incident follows an assault on the leader of the country's largest opposition party earlier this month. South Korean public broadcaster KBS and other media say Bae Hyun-jin of the People Power Party was assaulted in the capital, Seoul at around 5 p.m. on Thursday. They also say the assailant approached her and asked if she was the lawmaker, before striking her in the back of the head with what appeared to be a blunt object. Bae was rushed to a hospital and is now receiving treatment. KBS say police arrested Bae's attacker at the site. It also reports he is a middle school student. Bae was a television news anchor before being elected to the National Assembly. She briefly served as a spokesperson for then President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol after he won the presidential election in 2022. Bae has had exchanges with Japanese lawmakers as a member of the South Korea-Japan parliamentarians' union. The attack comes about three weeks after the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, was stabbed in the neck in the southern city of Busan.
