Sources have told NHK that senior officials from the United States and Europe will meet in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to discuss a 10-point peace plan for Ukraine.

They say the informal talks are aimed at modifying a strategy to implement the plan in light of Russia's prolonged invasion and the slowing flow of aid for Ukraine.

Leaders in Kyiv proposed the peace plan, which calls for the full withdrawal of Russian troops, a cessation of hostilities, and securing nuclear safety.

Discussions have been held three times since June. Senior officials from more than 60 nations, including Ukraine and the Group of Seven, have taken part.

Some participants reportedly called for the attendance of a Russian representative in future talks.

Observers say Russia and Ukraine have not taken any steps toward a ceasefire. But they say relevant nations are holding backchannel discussions on how to establish peace.
