Israel has reportedly decided to send negotiators to Qatar for talks on a pause in fighting with Hamas and the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip. Israeli newspaper Haaretz says that the country's war cabinet decided to send the delegation on Monday. Representatives of Israel and mediators including the United States and Qatar held talks in Paris from Friday. Israel has reportedly agreed on a proposal for a six-week pause in the fighting in exchange for the release of some of the hostages. Delegates in Qatar will likely discuss details of the Israeli hostages, as well as Palestinian prisoners in Israel, to be released. But Israel and Hamas differ widely on a complete ceasefire. Israel has indicated its military will press ahead with a ground offensive in the southern city of Rafah, where nearly 1.5 million people, including evacuees, currently live. Israel says Hamas militants have their last stronghold there. The Israeli military said on Monday that it has presented the war cabinet with a plan for evacuating people in Rafah. In an interview with CBS News aired on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his intention to launch a ground operation to destroy Hamas even if a deal is reached.
