Some 2,000 colorful wind bells are tinkling charmingly at a Buddhist temple in western Japan.
                
The glass chimes hang from a pergola along a 50-meter path leading to the main hall of Saikyoji temple in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. Putting up the chimes is intended to ward off disasters and bring good fortune.
                
The temple says it increased the number of wind bells by 500 this year, and that monks painted them in eight colors, including red, yellow and green.
                
Visitors have been strolling along the path, listening to the jingle-jangle of the chimes and taking photos of them.
                
A man in his 50s said admiring the bells and listening to their beautiful sounds make him feel relaxed.
                
Maesaka Ryoju, the temple&#039;s head monk, said the temple originally hung the wind chimes to pray for the coronavirus to be eliminated. He said that as the pandemic finally calms down, he hopes the bells bring happiness to visitors.
                
The display will continue through September 18.
