Israel says it will pause military activity in part of the southern Gaza Strip during daytime hours to allow more humanitarian aid into the enclave, but the operations in Rafah will continue. Israeli military officials announced on Sunday that the activity will be paused from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day until further notice. They say the pause will apply to the main road from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Khan Younis. The crossing is a key route for the delivery of humanitarian supplies. Israeli authorities say much of the aid on the Gaza side of the crossing is waiting to be picked up by UN and other organizations. The United Nations says the delivery of supplies has slowed because Israeli attacks on the area make it difficult to access the crossing. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNRWA, said on Saturday that civilians in Gaza "continue to face desperate levels of hunger." It added, "Over 50,000 children require treatment for acute malnutrition." Local Palestinian media said on Sunday that Israeli airstrikes on Rafah and the northern city of Gaza had left several people injured.
