Japan's Environment Minister Asao Keiichiro vowed to contribute to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions at an event related to the UN climate change conference, or COP29, in Azerbaijan.
Asao, speaking in the capital Baku on Monday, stressed the need for transparency of each country's measures on the issue to enhance the effectiveness of efforts to curb global greenhouse gas emissions.
He said Japan submitted a biennial report to the UN last month, earlier than other industrialized nations.
The report details Japan's efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and presents information on funding and support it is providing to promote the goal.
The minister said Japan will send experts to developing nations to offer assistance in preparing such reports, and that it will also share how Japan calculates emissions through data collected from Japanese satellites that measure the density of heat-trapping gases.
Asao said he would take part in ministerial negotiations as well as bilateral talks.
He said he will call for results from nations in an affirmative manner so that efforts to tackle global warming will advance.
Countries are required to submit to the UN their emission mitigation target for 2035 by February.
Asao later attended the COP29 ministerial meeting and expressed readiness to accelerate discussions in order to submit the country's target before the deadline.
He added Japan's target will be an ambitious one in line with the goal set in the Paris Agreement to limit the increase in global average temperatures to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
