Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu says the Japanese government has dismissed Russian claims about Tokyo's decision to supply Ukraine with defense equipment. Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it had summoned Japan's ambassador to Moscow, Kozuki Toyohisa, to tell him that the plan would lead to an escalation of hostile acts and more casualties. The Japanese government plans to provide Ukraine with about 100 trucks and other vehicles from the Ground Self-Defense Force. The Russian ministry calls them "military equipment." Matsuno told reporters on Monday that the Japanese ambassador had rebutted Russia's claims. Matsuno said Kozuki told Moscow that its invasion of Ukraine invited the current circumstances, and that the attempts to shift the blame to Tokyo are extremely unfair and totally unacceptable. The ambassador reportedly said that Russia's invasion is a clear violation of international law and cannot be tolerated, and he strongly urged Moscow to withdraw all its troops immediately. Matsuno stressed that Japan will continue tough sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine to help stop the invasion as soon as possible.
