Japanese figure skater Uno Shoma has won his first Grand Prix Final title in the men's singles event.

The annual event was canceled for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uno, who topped the short program competition, also ranked first in the free program on Saturday in Turin, Italy.

Uno successfully landed a quadruple loop at the beginning of his free program, followed by a quad Salchow and a quad flip. Each jump earned him a score of more than 3 points.

In all, Uno jumped five quads of four types, something he has aimed to accomplish since the last season.

Uno renewed his personal record for free skating with 204.47 points, and kept the top spot with a total of 304.46 points.

Another Japanese skater, Yamamoto Sota, finished second in his first appearance in the competition.

He landed three quad jumps in his free program, scoring 179.49 points, and earning a total of 274.35 points. Both scores were his personal best.

Ilia Malinin of the United States came in third. He landed multiple quad jumps, including a quad Axel. Just three months ago, the 18-year-old became the first skater ever to nail the jump in competition.

He earned 191.84 points in the free program, and a total score of 271.94 points.
