Ukraine detains two people for allegedly collecting data on airfields for F-16s NHK

Ukraine's Security Service says it has detained two people for allegedly collecting data on military airfields where F-16 fighter jets are stationed.

Security Service officials said on Tuesday that the two are from Kremenchuk in the central region of Poltava. They are 22 and 21 years old.

The officials said the suspected agents were recruited by a Russian Federal Security Service officer, and were detained while photographing the takeoff of a F-16 fighter jet.

The officials also said the suspects were tasked with collecting information about the exact locations of military airfields and aviation infrastructure of Ukraine, so that Russian forces could launch missile and drone strikes against them.

Ukraine had sought provision of F-16s by Western countries. After announcing the first arrival of the jets in August last year, Kyiv has deployed them in combat.
