Reports: China moves to convene meeting on US tariffs at UN Security Council NHK

News agencies are reporting that China has requested that an informal meeting be convened at the UN Security Council next week to discuss US President Donald Trump's tariff policy.

Reuters and other media outlets say the meeting is expected on Wednesday.

China reportedly has invited all 193 UN member states to attend.

A note outlining the meeting reads: "By weaponizing tariffs as a tool of extreme pressure, the US has gravely violated international trade rules, and triggered severe shocks and turbulence in the world economy and multilateral trading system."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters on Thursday, "We support the international community in leveraging various platforms, including the Security Council, to foster discussions, deepen understanding the dangers of unilateralism and bullying."
