The president of Japanese commercial broadcaster Fuji Television has conveyed his apology to a woman who was sexually assaulted by a TV personality when she was an announcer for the network.
A third-party panel which had been investigating the scandal reported its conclusion on Monday that the woman was subjected to sexual violence by Nakai Masahiro, and the incident occurred in connection with her job.
The woman issued a statement on Tuesday saying she will never get back what she had lost.
Fuji Television President Shimizu Kenji told reporters on Wednesday that he offers her his heartfelt apology.
Shimizu noted that the panel report makes it a top priority for the broadcaster to deepen its understanding of what is misbehavior and have remorse for what it did wrong.
He said the company must take this incident seriously and the entire organization must think through carefully.
The third-party panel also indicated possible acts of power harassment and sexual harassment by Sorimachi Osamu, who anchors a news program on Fuji's broadcast satellite channel.
The channel announced on Tuesday that it has withdrawn Sorimachi from the program for the time being.
Shimizu said Fuji Television will deal appropriately with the matter after confirming the facts.
