Tokyo police arrest man on suspicion of abandoning girlfriend's body NHK

Police in Tokyo have arrested the boyfriend of a teenage girl on suspicion of abandoning her body. The man had already been arrested on a separate allegation of embezzlement.

The body of Nomoto Yurika was found in woods in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, in late November. The 18-year-old had been missing since June.

A former school classmate of the 31-year-old boyfriend, Atsumi Ryoma, has also been arrested for allegedly abandoning the body.

The former classmate, Hori Toshiya, reportedly told police that he went to the woods in a car with Atsumi to abandon the body.

Investigative sources say Atsumi admitted that he went to the woods in a car driven by Hori to abandon the body.

Investigators discovered the woman's body after searching the area Hori had suggested.

Atsumi is a resident of Tokyo's Edogawa Ward, where the woman also lived. Bloodstains were reportedly found in his home and car.
