Xi promotes multilateral trade on Southeast Asian tour NHK

Amid the tit-for-tat tariffs between Washington and Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up his tour of Vietnam, Malaysia, and finally, Cambodia. He appears to be deepening his ties with these countries to counter the Trump administration.



President Xi held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday.



According to the Chinese foreign ministry, Xi said their two countries must oppose all acts of unilateralism and bullying, and practice true multilateralism.



Xi also said the two sides must firmly resist regional rivalries. He emphasized the need to strengthen coordination within various international frameworks, such as ASEAN.



The ministry said China and Cambodia have exchanged over 30 documents on bilateral cooperation in fields including supply chains and artificial intelligence.



During his tour, he consistently stressed the importance of multilateral trade and called for cooperation.



ASEAN is a larger trade partner for China than the US.
