Russian President Vladimir Putin says his visit to North Korea last week has raised bilateral relations to an unprecedented level.
                
Russia&#039;s presidential office says Putin on Monday sent a message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to thank him for the hospitality he received during the visit.
                
Putin met with Kim in North Korea on Wednesday during his first visit to the country in 24 years. They signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty. It says if either Russia or North Korea is invaded and placed under a state of war, each side is committed to provide military assistance.
                
The message says the visit was of special significance and has brought Russia-North Korea ties to an unprecedented high level. It says Putin looks forward to continuing constructive dialogue and working closely together. It also notes that Kim is always a welcome and dear guest in Russia.
                
At the summit, Putin said he hopes the next meeting will be held in Moscow.
                
Observers say Putin is placing importance on relations with Pyongyang, which is said to be providing munitions and other equipment to Moscow, as Russia&#039;s invasion of Ukraine drags on.
