Japanese junior high school student Kagawa Tomo has become the country's youngest professional golfer at the age of 15 years and seven months. Kagawa is from Noda City in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo. He started playing golf at the age of one at a practice range run by his father. By the time he reached sixth grade, he had won an amateur golf tournament in Japan. Last year, after passing through the third round of the professional qualifying tournament, he earned the credentials to turn pro. He formalized his professional status by signing up for the tour on March 13, the same day as his junior high school graduation ceremony. The Japan Golf Tour Organization confirmed that he is the youngest person ever to achieve the feat in the country. Kagawa expressed his excitement over his achievement at a news conference on Tuesday. He said he is pleased as he had wanted to become pro as early as possible to play in a challenging environment. Asked about his future goals, he said he aims to win the Masters Tournament and claim the world's number one spot. Kagawa has reportedly been receiving lessons from renowned Japanese golfer Ozaki Masashi, known as "Jumbo Ozaki," since last month. He said he will continue practicing with a new training method taught by Ozaki.
