North Korea&#039;s military says that South Korean forces fired more than 10 warning shots at the North&#039;s soldiers working near the land border, terming the move &quot;dangerous provocation.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Ko Jong Chol, vice chief of the General Staff of the Korean People&#039;s Army, issued a statement through the North&#039;s state-run Korean Central News Agency, or KCNA, on Saturday.
        
                    
                  
He said the South Korean military fired the warning shots with a machine gun on Tuesday. The North Korean soldiers were reportedly working on building a barrier near the military demarcation line between the two Koreas.
        
                    
                  
Ko said South Korea had been informed of the construction work through the US forces. He referred to the South&#039;s actions as &quot;deliberate military provocation&quot; and &quot;inciting military conflict.&quot;
        
                    
                  
He went on to warn that the North would take &quot;corresponding countermeasure&quot; if the South Korean military continues to restrain or obstruct the border project.
        
                    
                  
The South Korean military announced on Saturday that the warning shots were fired at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday after North Korean soldiers crossed onto the southern side of the military demarcation line. It said the North&#039;s soldiers then retreated.
        
                    
                  
North Korea has been setting up anti-tank barriers near the military demarcation line after it defined the South as a hostile nation.
        
                    
                  
The South Korean military similarly fired warning shots at North Korean soldiers who crossed the demarcation line in June last year and in April this year.
