Most of Germany's transport network is at a standstill as workers strike over pay. It's one of the country's largest ever. More than 2.5 million airport and expressway workers are jointly striking with another nationwide union of railway and transport workers. On Monday, members began a large-scale 24-hour work stoppage. Media are calling it a "super strike." They are reporting that millions of passengers who depend on buses and trains may be affected. Most of the country's airports, including Frankfurt and Munich, have suspended operations, leading to many cancellations. Germany has experienced price surges, notably in energy, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The country's inflation rate topped 8 percent for six straight months through February. Wage negotiations began on Monday, but it may be difficult to quickly close the gap between management and labor. Further public sector strikes could result if no deal can be reached.
