A Japanese team of experts is in Turkey to help survivors of recent quakes by sharing the experiences of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
                
The five-member team from Tohoku University&#039;s International Research Institute of Disaster Science visited the southern province of Hatay on Tuesday.
                
Hatay was devastated by the quakes that hit southern Turkey and Syria in February. The tremors killed more than 50,000 people and destroyed 56,000 buildings in Turkey alone.
                
Team members inspected collapsed buildings to see whether they had been constructed with low-quality materials.
                
They also visited a shelter where 530 people are living in about 70 tents.
                
The members stressed the importance of staying healthy in a prolonged evacuation. They suggested that thermometers be installed to help ensure temperatures in the tents don&#039;t become too hot.
                
Professor Imamura Fumihiko said children and vulnerable people are being taken care of in shelters.
                
He said records should be kept to help improve Turkey&#039;s disaster preparedness.
                
The experts are scheduled to meet with disaster management officials during their stay in Turkey until Thursday.
