Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has expressed his condolences over the death of Iran's president in a statement released on Monday. In the statement, Kishida said he is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of President Ebrahim Raisi. He said he had a series of candid discussions on the bilateral relationship and the regional situation based on the long-standing friendly relations between their nations. He said on behalf of the government and the people of Japan, he would like to express his deepest condolences to the government and the people of Iran and the family of President Raisi. Kishida met with Raisi in New York last year and the year before. He also had telephone talks with him on two occasions.
