The United States has launched direct negotiations with Russia as part of its efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end. US President Donald Trump said in an interview with a radio station on Friday that he doesn&#039;t think it &quot;important&quot; for Zelenskyy to be at ceasefire talks.
        
                    
                  
Zelenskyy is concerned that the US and Russia may proceed with negotiations without his country&#039;s involvement.
        
                    
                  
On Friday, he made a flurry of telephone calls aimed at rallying international support.
        
                    
                  
An opinion poll conducted earlier in the week in Ukraine showed that 91 percent of respondents are opposed to the negotiations being carried out by Washington and Moscow alone.
        
                    
                  
Meanwhile, NBC News quoted multiple US officials as saying the Trump administration is considering plans to automatically grant Ukraine NATO membership if Russia violates any future peace agreement.
        
                    
                  
The US media reported that such a provision, designed to allow Kyiv to bypass a series of steps normally required for NATO membership, would be aimed at addressing the key concern for Ukraine and its allies that Russia would regroup and invade the country again.
