China's top court has disclosed details of fraud cases for which guilty verdicts were given, as a warning against scam groups operating in Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. The Supreme People's Court on Monday released typical cases of online fraud and other illegal activities in which courts across the country had convicted those involved. In one case, a romance scam group based in a Myanmarese town near the border with China promised a high income to prospective workers, transported Chinese nationals into the country and forced them to work in scam operations in 2020. A group operating in Cambodia and the Philippines manipulated online casinos to swindle over 100 people out of about 8 million dollars in 2018 and afterwards. The main culprit was sentenced to indefinite-term imprisonment. The supreme court warned the public, saying that fraud groups are enticing minors and students to use them as a crime tool.
