A court in Paris has sentenced eight people to between two and 18 years in prison for their involvement in the deadly truck attack in the southern French city of Nice six years ago. A large truck driven by a Tunisian man rammed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day and watching fireworks on July 14, 2016. Eighty-six people were killed, and more than 400 others were injured. The driver was shot dead by police at the scene. The court had been trying the eight charged in connection with the terror attack. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility. The ruling was delivered on Tuesday, sentencing two of the eight people to 18 years in prison for providing support for the Tunisian driver while knowing of his extremist views. The rest of the defendants were given prison sentences of up to 12 years for helping to obtain weapons for the attacker, or for other acts related to the deadly incident.
