Hong Kong authorities say it will take three to four weeks to complete the recovery and identification of bodies from a massive fire at a high-rise residential complex.
The blaze started on Wednesday, engulfing seven of the eight apartment blocks at the site in the northern district of Tai Po.
Authorities said on Sunday that 146 people had been confirmed dead with 40 or more unaccounted for.
They added that searches of five burned buildings have been completed but similar operations for the other two affected towers are &quot;more difficult.&quot;
A local TV station aired photographs of charred ceilings and walls of upper-floor rooms as well as severely damaged furniture.
A great number of mourners, many holding flowers, formed a long line at a park near the complex on Sunday night to pay tribute to those who had died in the disaster.
Visitors left written messages, including wishes for the victims to rest in peace and words of encouragement for people in Hong Kong. Many messages are calling for an investigation to determine what caused the tragedy.
Grief has also been spreading among the community of more than 20,000 Japanese citizens in Hong Kong.
One of them lives in an area near the fire. The person, who is worried about the lives of survivors and their families, said it is poignant to see people crying in town.
