The head of Japan's central bank says the outlook for the global economy is highly uncertain. Bank of Japan Governor Ueda Kazuo was speaking to reporters in India on Sunday. He will attend a two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the Group of 20 nations that begins on Monday. Ueda noted that the global economy has begun to slow down since last year as central banks have tightened their monetary policies in response to high inflation. But he said some analysts point out the global economy has not slowed as expected this year, and there are high uncertainties over the future outlook. Ueda was asked about rising long-term interest rates driven by expectations that the Bank of Japan will scale back monetary easing at its policy meeting later this month. He said his view on the functioning of Japan's bond market has not changed greatly from when the BOJ's policymakers met in April and June. The governor added that the distortion in the yield curve has been eased considerably.
