Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have agreed to maintain close cooperation between their countries toward calming down the Israel-Hamas conflict as soon as possible.
The two leaders reached the agreement in telephone talks on Wednesday.
Kishida expressed his appreciation for the cooperation Egypt extended when Japanese nationals and their families evacuated from the Gaza Strip on November 1.
He also welcomed the Israel-Hamas deal on a pause in the fighting and the release of hostages, which were realized through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar and the United States, saying it is an important step toward improving the situation.
In response, el-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Japan's humanitarian assistance and explained Egypt's view on addressing the situation.
