Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. says he hopes to meet with US President Donald Trump as soon as possible to discuss Trump's policies on immigration.
Marcos said on Thursday that the policies could impact thousands of undocumented Filipinos in the US.
The Philippine Ambassador to the US estimates 350,000 Filipinos are living in the country illegally.
The president said, "This is something that we have to work through and hopefully resolve. Because the Filipinos in the United States, especially, have really formed a very important part already of their workforce."
He says it's also not clear yet how his country could be affected by Trump's spending freeze for foreign aid programs.
The Trump administration wants to review the programs and make sure they are consistent with foreign policy under the "America First" agenda.
The Philippines receives around 125 million dollars annually through the US Agency for International Development.
