Brazil's Supreme Court has authorized an investigation into former President Jair Bolsonaro's alleged involvement in the attacks on government buildings last Sunday. About 4,000 supporters of the former far-right Brazilian president broke into and vandalized the Congress and other buildings, including the presidential palace, on January 8. Police say they have arrested more than 1,300 people. On January 10, two days after the riot, Bolsonaro posted a video on social media, questioning Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's victory in last year's presidential election. The video was deleted a few hours later. On Friday, public prosecutors asked the Supreme Court to investigate Bolsonaro on suspicion of inciting a riot, saying that the video indicates he was involved in the violence in Brasilia. The top court approved the request. Bolsonaro, who is currently in the United States, is expected to be questioned after he returns to Brazil. The former president earlier said in a statement that he vehemently rejects the acts of vandalism and depredation of public patrimony committed by the infiltrators in the protest.
