French prosecutors say they have requested former Nissan Motor Chairman Carlos Ghosn, and French Culture Minister Rachida Dati stand trial on bribery and other charges. The prosecutors' office made the announcement on Friday. Multiple French media reported that when Dati was a member of the European Parliament, she allegedly received 900,000 euros, or about 950,000 dollars, between 2010 and 2012 as consulting fees from a subsidiary of the Renault-Nissan Alliance led by Ghosn. The reports say that payment was allegedly made without her actually working as a lawyer. The reports say prosecutors suspect the payment was made in return for the lobbying activities that are banned in the European Parliament. Dati issued a statement, saying she has never done any lobbying. In a separate case, French judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant for Ghosn on suspicion of illegally diverting funds from Renault. But Ghosn has been in Lebanon since jumping bail and fleeing from Japan to Lebanon after being indicted for violating the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and other charges. It is unlikely for Lebanon to extradite Ghosn to France.
