At least six civilians have been killed in an explosion near a Taliban-run facility in the Afghan capital. The blast took place in the vicinity of the foreign ministry in central Kabul on Monday afternoon. Police said several people, including children, were injured. The police said Taliban fighters opened fire in a bid to stop a suspicious man walking toward a security checkpoint. The explosion occurred when the man fell to the ground. Muslims are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan. The area at the time was busy with many people on their way home. In January, at least five people were killed when a suicide bombing hit the area, which is home to government buildings and embassies. The Islamic State militant group was believed to be responsible for the attack.
