Major Japanese automakers will be showcasing their latest technologies, such as electric vehicles, self-driving cars and vertical take-off vehicles, at Japan's rebranded auto show. The Japan Mobility Show, which was renamed from the Tokyo Motor Show, will open for the first time in four years in Tokyo on Thursday. Nearly 500 companies, including automakers, steel companies and telecommunications firms, will take part. Toyota Motor will unveil a new EV concept car to be launched in 2026. Nissan will display a concept vehicle featuring fully autonomous driving technology. Suzuki plans to showcase a vertical take-off vehicle it seeks to start producing next year in cooperation with a startup. Japanese automakers are said to be lagging behind their rivals, as EVs become popular mainly in China and Europe. At the event, they are trying to demonstrate their development capabilities with cutting-edge technologies in various fields. The mobility show will run until November 5. The organizer, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, says it hopes to attract 1 million visitors.
