Israel continued fierce airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Sunday, right before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
                
Local media say people have been killed or injured in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza and Khan Younis in the south.
                
They also say Israeli forces shot and killed civilians waiting for aid supplies in northern Gaza.
                
Health authorities in Gaza say at least 31,045 people have been killed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. They say a two-month-old baby and a 20-year-old woman died of malnutrition and dehydration.
                
The Wall Street Journal says Arab negotiators are trying to broker a two-day pause in fighting at the start of Ramadan, which is set to begin either Monday or Tuesday.
                
Israel is refusing to accept a lasting truce that Hamas has been calling for.
                
If fighting continues in Gaza during the Muslim holy month, causing even more serious food shortages, anti-Israeli sentiment could further escalate across the Middle East and trigger large-scale clashes in the West Bank and elsewhere.
