1. The Japanese government is preparing for a potential tsunami caused by a mega-quake in the Nankai Trough region. If a warning is issued, over 520,000 people will be asked to evacuate, with some areas requiring advance evacuation. 2. Designated areas for advance evacuation include those where the elderly, disabled, or others needing special care reside, as well as other regions where all residents are asked to evacuate. As of a survey conducted in June 2025, over 130 municipalities have designated areas needing early evacuation. 3. The government is offering support and advice to the approximately 200 municipalities that have yet to decide on which areas require designation for advance evacuation.
